Job Opportunity: Managing Director, DivSeek International Network (DIN)
DivSeek International Network (DIN) is a community-driven effort that aims to encourage and support the development of a vibrant, global plant genetic resources (PGR) community by developing and sharing resources, capabilities, ideas and best practices to empower gene bank managers, breeders, researchers and farmers to better characterize, disseminate and utilize plant genetic variation to improve the productivity, quality and sustainable production of food and agricultural products around the world. DIN has multi-year financial support from the Global Institute for Food Security (GIFS) located at the University of Saskatchewan, Genome Canada and Genome Prairie.
DivSeek International Network (http://www.divseek.org/) is seeking a forward-looking, internationally-minded Managing Director to coordinate and strengthen global research and policy initiatives for DIN.
The Managing Director will act as the senior executive lead for DIN; will manage its activities with the support of the Board of Directors and the Members to ensure that the DIN’s strategic objectives are achieved; will be the primary contact person for DIN Member organizations and will have full authority in the overall administration, management and coordination of DIN activities and budgets. The Managing Director will oversee the effective utilization of the DIN’s financial resources to support existing operations and activities and will be actively involved in raising funds to expand operations and activities.
The Managing Director will report to the elected DIN Board of Directors and will work closely with the Board to execute activities, programs, and procedures.
Responsibilities: The Managing Director will be responsible for daily management, and in collaboration with the Board of Directors will:
●Develop realistic work plans for the DIN that are aligned with available resources and mapped to current strategic priorities.
●Develop annual DIN budgets in support of the work plans.
●Lead efforts to expand DIN funding opportunities, membership, and future activities.
●Work with Members to establish and promote activities of DivSeek National Nodes.
●Monitor and report on utilization of the DIN budget and commitments on a monthly basis to facilitate informed decision-making.
●Coordinate DIN Board meetings in person and online and manage associated documentation.
●Organize in-person DIN Partners Assemblies and manage associated documentation and communication.
●Oversee all administrative tasks associated with the DIN.
●Coordinate representation of the DIN at meetings, conferences, and other events; organize travel and monitor reimbursement.
●Help develop communication and engagement with relevant international bodies, including the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources
for Food and Agriculture(ITPGRFA).
●Manage the DIN website, archive and share information and presentations about the DIN, its objectives, activities, successes, and events.
●On a regular basis, develop and distribute communication materials about the DIN’s activities to Member organizations and external stakeholders.
●Demonstrated experience in managing complex activities involving international partners and interdisciplinary projects.
●Proven skills in leadership, strategic planning, budgeting and delivery of objectives.
●Ability to develop and communicate a common vision among diverse partners across public and private sectors.
●PhD or advanced degree in a field related to plant sciences, international agriculture, or computer and information sciences with experience in biological information management.
●Demonstrated ability to work productively and maintain strong interpersonal relations in multi-cultural settings.

Remuneration (in Canadian dollars) is commensurate with qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will maintain daily contact with the DIN secretariat, hosted by the Global Institute for Food Security (www.gifs.ca) located at the University of Saskatchewan. Residence may be in Canada or elsewhere. The successful candidate must be eligible to legally work in Canada, or must obtain a work visa, if required.
