Call for Host Applications

6th International Wheat Congress, 2030

On behalf of the International Organising Committee (IOC) we are pleased to open the call for applications to host the 6th International Wheat Congress (IWC) to be held in 2030.

The First International Wheat Congress (1st IWC) was held in Saskatoon, Canada, the 2nd in Beijing, China, the 3rd in Perth, Australia and the 4th will be held next year in Bologna, Italy.

In order to allow engagement from the wheat research community in selecting the host for future International Wheat Congresses, a three-stage process will be implemented by the IOC.

  • In the first stage, applicants are invited to submit an Expression of Interest through an on-line form.  Expressions of interest are not mandatory, but are strongly encouraged. For the expression of interest, please include the names of the proposed chair(s) or co-chairs of the scientific committee, and, if available, the name of the conference organiser. The closing date for expressions of interest will be Friday 12 December, 2025.

  • In the second stage applicants need to fill out a form and submitt their full applications addressing the points listed in Annex 1., being accompanied by a cover letter signed by an authorised representative of the applying institution confirming their support by Friday 27 February, 2026. The IOC will then shortlist the strongest proposals that meet the selection criteria outlined below.

  • In the third stage, the shortlisted bids will be asked to present their case at the 4th IWC in Italy, May 2026. Congress delegates will then be asked to vote on their preferred location.

The IOC and the Wheat Initiative (WI) recognise the significant lead time that is required for preparing the bids to host the Congress and then for the selected host to organise such a large Congress. Therefore, we are launching the call for interest now.

The WI will facilitate the process on behalf of the IOC.
