Jesus Larraguibel comes from a family with long history in crop production in northwestern Mexico. Studied Economics at the University of Arizona thinking his path would lead somewhere outside agriculture, yet despite a brief career in financial sector, returned to head the agricultural family business since 2006. He is the owner and manager of a grain production farm in Navojoa, Sonora, Mexico. Under his direct supervision the 1012 ha farm produce durum wheat (with export-quality), chickpeas, safflower, and corn under irrigation and high-intensity management. His cropping work evaluates yearly research with the application of new knowledge to streamline costs and optimize yields and implements technologies and techniques that improves good governance and sustainable development. Since November 2019, he is the chair of the Board for Agricultural Research for the Sonora state (PIEAES A.C./ pieaes.com.mx), the oldest farmer-funded agricultural research organization in Mexico and a long-time partner of CIMMYT and INIFAP. He also serves as Board Member and Advisor at CIMMYT on plant health and the Rural Landowners Association of Sonora, Irrigation Section 13, Agricultural Credit Union of Mayo.
