The Wheat Initiative (WI), as an initiative endorsed by the G20 Agricultural Ministers, was invited to present on the 27th of May, as it has emerged as a pivotal organisation in fostering international collaboration on wheat to address global food security challenges.

Professor Peter Langridge, Chair of the WI Scientific Board, and Teresa Saavedra, Program Manager of the WI, represented the initiative at the meeting online. Prof Langridge presentation focused on the three key priorities areas the WI was established to pursue:

1.    Identifying synergies and build capacity

"The Wheat Initiative has made great progress in strengthening the wheat research community and established multinational research collaborations to tackle the many global challenges to food production,” said Peter Langridge.

The WI continues to support and coordinate the international exchange of ideas, resources, and capacities on wheat. Through its eleven Expert Working Groups, its AHEAD and WATCH-A program, as well as collaborating in the Green Era Hub calls. Its aim is to enhance the sustainable production of high-quality wheat and contribute to global food security.

Established in 2011, the WI’s goal is to support and coordinate international efforts in the exchange of ideas, resources and capacities to enhance the sustainable production of high-quality wheat to support global food security.
