Wheat Information System Expert Working Group Travel Awards for Early Career Researchers #IWC2026Bologna

Thank you for your interest in the Wheat Initiative Wheat Information System Expert Working Group (WheatIS EWG) and in your interest to attend the 4th International Wheat Congress, 2026 in Bologna, Italy (#IWC2026Bologna).

The WheatIS EWG is offering Travel Awards for Early Career Researchers (ECRs) to attend the WheatIS EWG in-person meeting during the #IWC2026Bologna.

The WI Wheat IS EWG Travel Awards for ECRs are for researchers connected to the WheatIS EWG. Please be aware that you will receive guidelines on how to present invoices and documents for your reimbursement. Each Travel Award will be up to 999 Euros.

The Travel Award can be used for travel (economy), visa and accommodation costs and registration fee for the 4th IWC in Bologna, Italy. The WI Travel Awards for ECRs is not paid before the event but is granted on a reimbursement basis upon presenting documentation specified in the guidelines for WI Travel Award. No funds can be provided in advance. 

The following supporting material MUST be attached to your application: Letter of support from supervisor, Abstract for the IWC2026 and Curriculum Vitae (up to one page).  Applications will not be considered if any of these are not attached. 

  • It is mandatory that the awardee attends the WheatIS annual meeting that will be held on Sunday the 24th of May.

  • The Chairs of the WheatIS EWG will give the awardee the opportunity to give a presentation at the WheatIS annual meeting.

Deadline for the full application submission is Monday 15th December 2025

Eligibility:

Applicants must be enrolled or working at an academic institution at the time of the 4th IWC (May 2026) at:

  • Wheat Initiative member country  (Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Morocco, Republic of Korea, Türkiye, United Kingdom, Uruguay, United States)

  • CIMMYT and ICARDA

  • West and Central Africa Wheat Development Network (WECAWheat) members countries

  • Non-G20 countries

  • Non-OECD countries

Note: This applies regardless of the nationality of the applicant.

Applicants must be presenting a poster or talk at the 4th International Wheat Congress in Bologna, Italy.
